INTRODUCTION

take a good look at the envelope before trimming the stamp off

Before you wash off a stamp or even trim a stamp off an envelope have a CLOSE look at the envelope.

Does the envelope have any interesting postmarks on it ?

Is there any errors in the printing of the stamp?

Is there any errors in the postmark? for example is the date up the correct way? how is the spelling, are there any mistakes?

If it is a very old envelope, check to see it the post office still exists. Has the place changed its name? Is the postmark a rare one?

Would the item be more interesting in your collection if it were to remain on the envelope?

If there is an error or some interesting postmarks of any kind it may be worth more left on the envelope.
