MORE PARCEL LABELS

By Richard Peck

Many of the larger department stores seem to have adapted their own schemes for parcel delivery to accommodate delivery by mail. Shown is a page from my Social Philately collection “Shopping and the Mail” which shows two different David Jones Sydney examples. No precise postal regulations governing this service have been seen and it is likely that the firms printed the labels themselves.

On a similar note, the Receipted Delivery service established some years ago to replaced Certified Mail is still being used (green labels now with barcodes) but these are not available to the public over the post office counter. Check them out in Frazer & Occleshaw, The Official Postal Labels of Australia available from the Cinderella Stamp Club of A/Asia, PO Box 887 Chatswood 2057.

David Jones used two Pitney Bowes Automax meters for their mail order despatch and one for rail freight. They moved this facility to Homebush in 1973. Little is know about the parcel post labels.
